We are delighted to announce that the Tactile Universe has been granted a prestigious Nucleus Award by the funding body STFC. This funding will allow us to roll out the project across the UK, making our 3D tactile galaxy images and other resources available to any child with a vision impairment in the country.
More specifically, the funding will support the project to carry out four interlinked strands:
- Making all our 3D printing files for the tactile galaxy images, plus supporting materials, freely available online for anyone to use.
- Creating kits containing our 3D galaxy images, activity guides, and any other resources required to run our activities, to distribute to public engagement and education organisations.
- Holding training sessions so that teachers, educators, science communicators, outreach professionals and any other interested parties can learn how to use our resources.
- Visiting remote communities that are not within our usual reach or that of the people who attend our training sessions, to run workshops and events with the VI community in those areas.
As part of this process, we have formed official partnerships with The Ogden Trust, RNIB, the Royal Astronomical Society and the South East Physics Network (SEPnet), and are grateful to all four organisations for their continued support of the project.
If you are interested in getting involved with the Tactile Universe in any way, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
